We Are the Pirates Who Don't Do Anything - July 9th, 2006

Pirates 01:44 am
I saw the midnight showing of Pirates on Thursday in Richmond! And I, along with a whole bunch of Kendra's people, dressed as a pirate! Pictures to come some day when I get my camera back (left it on Kendra's dresser, maybe).

I liked it! It was much better than most sequels of Disney films. I don't know if it was better than the first: it was a different style. In keeping with the Law of Sequels, it had a much higher death count than the first, but since it's Disney, it was far from gorey. It was fantasy adventure instead of a pirate story. Lots of visual jokes, but they were generally actually funny. It would have been really great if it hadn't been To Be Continued. Despite fears, was not an All About Jack Sparrow movie.

Everyone got hotter in this movie. Except Johnny Depp. He was sort of less hot, but this may have just been from comparison with Orlando Bloom, Kiera Knightley, and Norrington all becoming suddenly much more attractive. A very pretty movie! See it in the theater! With the focus on spectacle, I'm sure it will be much lessened on the small screen. (One might not be wrong if one accused the movie of being shallow.)

That's it for thoughts of the night. (If those can be called thoughts.)

Whoa! It's only 10:00! It feels so much later. I guess that's what I get for not sleeping so much lately.

Also, I got a new valve on my tire and a new pressure gage. That makes me so happy!

ETA: Perhaps I should mention that I view action movies differently than I view other movies. So if you go into Pirates expecting a story movie, maybe it would be disappointing (?). But, last night, it ROCKED.
