To take a break from painting, I decided to do something useless and stick up a couple more photos from California. First, however, I will take a moment to whine about the suckiness of America West. Our first flight landed half an hour late, so we missed our connection in Pheonix. Naturally, it was the last flight to San Luis Obispo. But we still stood in line for assistance for three hours after missing the 7:10 flight, endured the rude airline representatives, and got to a hotel at 11:00. Urg. So we didn't actually get to Grandma and Grandpa's house till 1:00 the next day. But then it was all good. :)
( Gnarly Tree Photo )
I was suprised by the chilly wind, though. And quite amused at how what trees there were in San Simeon grew sideways. Windy and covered and dryed out grass, it was quite alien to little Virginian me. The most amazing thing was all the birds. I don't think there were actually that many more birds than where I live, but with few trees and buildings, you see each and every one. It was amazing.
( Me! )
When I upped the contrast to make the plaque legible ("On this site in 1897 nothing happened") it really brought out the bags under my eyes. Heh, that after a week of getting up around 7:00. Anyway, since we're from a "historically-rich" area, Mom and I found this quite amusing.
Ta!
